BHS Social Emotional Support Services Assistant Teacher

Purpose:

  • Create a welcome atmosphere aligned with BHS program values:
    • Promote students’ social-emotional growth.
    • Center students’ languages and cultures.
    • Offer opportunities for engagement and collaboration with peers in a culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Ensure that students and families are connected to all supports that are available at the BHS.
  • Support the planning and implementation of social emotional classroom support services for students within all classrooms at the BHS. Expected age groups are: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15.

Outcomes:

  • Students attending the BHS receive social emotional support services during the blueberry harvest.
  • All students in each classroom experience learning opportunities where they feel welcome, supported, and connected to others.
  • Support student learning through opportunities for students to use and access multiple languages throughout the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small group support based on students’ educational, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Assist the Social Emotional Support Services Coordinator with planning and implementation of social emotional classroom support services.
  • Support highly engaging enrichment activities that incorporate social-emotional learning opportunities.
  • Share supervision responsibilities with Lead Teachers during bus arrival/dismissal, meal times, recess, and field trips.
  • Communicate regularly with other program staff to ensure that students are able to access support services available during the program.
  • Share staff responsibilities during one evening event per week, such as Family Night.

Collaboration and Supervision:

SES Services Assistant Teachers receive regular support and feedback from their supervisor: School Coordinator, Laura Thomas.

SES Services Assistant Teachers collaborate with staff in the following roles: SES Services Coordinator, Lead Teachers, Community Culture Coordinator, Nurse, and Operations Coordinator.

  • SES Services Assistant Teachers connect with SES Services Coordinator throughout the day to support and share responsibilities for planning and implementation of social emotional classroom support services.
  • SES Services Assistant Teachers connect with Lead Teachers (and the School Coordinator, as needed) to ensure that social emotional classroom support services.: are aligned with program objectives and expectations; are differentiated based on student abilities and needs; are culturally and linguistically relevant.
  • SES Services Assistant Teachers connect with School Coordinator, Community Culture Coordinator, Nurse, and Operations Coordinator as needed, to ensure that student needs are being met and implement support plans for individual students as well as the class group as a whole.

SES Services Assistant Teachers do not supervise staff in any other roles.

  • Track all instructional, counseling, and support services provided to students

Qualifications and Hiring Information:

  • Values: Must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Mano en Mano’s mission and vision. Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate teaching experience that reflects a commitment to equity and social justice in education.
  • Experience: Two or more years of relevant experience supporting students in a school or other educational setting. Preference for applicants who demonstrate: experience working with highly mobile students and an understanding of trauma-informed practices.
  • Language: Must be fluent in English. Preference for applicants who are also fluent in Haitian Creole, Mi’kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and/or Spanish.
  • Education: High school diploma or higher. Preferred qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, Educational Technician certification, or other Paraprofessional certification.

  • Pay Range: $21-24/hour, based on BHS experience, and/or language fluency
  • Start/End Date: Tuesday, July 23rd- Friday, August 16th
  • Expected Hours (Full Time):
    • PD Week: Tuesday, July 23rd - Friday July 26th - 8:00AM-4:00PM
    • School in-session: Monday, July 29th - Friday, August 16th - 8:00AM-4:00PM, Monday-Friday
